The history of Switzerland Community Church is a story of the faithfulness of God. From our beginning in 1963 and now 50+ years later, God continues to direct us providing for all our needs, allowing us to operate debt free as we anticipate the future.
1963 – Switzerland Community Church begins, formed by a group of residents desiring to have a church in Switzerland, Florida. Because of the small population during that time, Switzerland Community Church was founded as an evangelical, nondenominational church. Reverend E.L. Johnson, Pastor of Mandarin Methodist Church, becomes the first pastor and the original chapel was built to house the new church.
1969 – An additional Auditorium was added to the original chapel. These two buildings currently house the Living Waters Preschool.
1979 – Wesley Slough, a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, was called to SCC to serve a small but growing congregation. Wes stepped up as Senior Pastor to lead and serve when Rev. Johnson retired.
1981- Planning for growth, 6 acres of land was purchased.
1992 – Gymnasium (Dowling Activity Center) and current sanctuary were constructed.
2000 – Education Building was constructed to ease overcrowding.
2003 – An additional 13 acres of land was purchased adjacent to the current property.
2010 – The Lighthouse auditorium and cafe was built to house a growing youth fellowship and expanding ministry needs.
2016- After 35+ years of faithful service, Pastor Wes retires, and Joseph Smith steps up to lead the congregation as SCC’s Pastor.
